Who we are

DetectraPro provides online research and mapping tools for metal-detecting research. DetectraPro is responsible for the personal information processed through this service. Privacy questions can be sent to support@detectrapro.com.

Information we collect and use

We process information you provide when creating and using a DetectraPro account. This can include your username, email address, password hash, account type, subscription information, account status and information you choose to save while using Research tools.

We may also process technical and security information such as IP-derived security identifiers, browser or device information, page or service activity, request information and error or performance information where this is needed to operate, protect and diagnose the service.

Email verification and account security

New registrations may be subject to email verification, bot protection and rate limiting. DetectraPro uses short-lived verification records and security information to help prevent automated registrations, abuse and repeated registration attempts. Passwords are stored as password hashes rather than as readable passwords.

Why we use your information

We use personal information to create and manage accounts, provide Research features, administer subscriptions, verify payments, provide support, send important account or service messages, prevent fraud and abuse, protect the website, diagnose faults and meet legal or accounting obligations.

Our main lawful bases are:

• Contract — where processing is necessary to provide the account, subscription or Research service you request.
• Legitimate interests — where necessary to operate, secure, support and improve DetectraPro, provided those interests do not override your rights.
• Legal obligation — where information must be retained or disclosed to comply with applicable law.
• Consent — where we specifically ask for consent for an optional use and consent is the appropriate lawful basis.

Subscriptions and PayPal

Paid subscriptions are processed by PayPal. DetectraPro records the information needed to manage your Research entitlement, such as the PayPal subscription identifier, billing plan, subscription status, payment status, renewal or cancellation information and the date through which paid access remains valid.

DetectraPro does not store your PayPal payment-card details. Payment information entered into PayPal is handled by PayPal under its own privacy terms. PayPal may send DetectraPro automated subscription and payment notifications so that we can activate, renew, suspend or end Research access correctly.

Research activity and saved information

DetectraPro processes information needed to provide map searches, research layers, saved research and analysis tools. Information you intentionally save to your account may remain associated with that account until it is deleted, the feature provides a delete option, or the information is no longer needed to provide the service.

Avoid entering confidential landowner, permission or other sensitive personal information into free-text research fields unless it is necessary for your own use of the service.

Location and My Coverage

Some Research features, including My Coverage, can use your device location. DetectraPro will only receive location information when you choose to use a location-based feature and your browser or device permits location access. If you choose to save a coverage route, the route and related information such as track points, distance, timing and accuracy information may be saved to your DetectraPro account so that you can view it again.

You can control location permission through your browser or device settings. Preventing location access may stop location-based features from working but does not prevent you from using other parts of DetectraPro.

Third-party maps and data services

DetectraPro uses external mapping, satellite, heritage, environmental, weather and research-data services to provide some map layers and analysis features. Depending on how a particular layer is delivered, your browser may request map tiles or other resources directly from a third-party service, or DetectraPro may request that information on your behalf through our server.

When your browser connects directly to an external service, that provider may receive standard web-request information such as your IP address, browser information and the requested map tile or resource. Those providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms.

Hosting, email and service providers

We use service providers to host DetectraPro, deliver account and support email, process payments and operate parts of the website. These providers may process personal information on our behalf or, in the case of services such as PayPal and certain external map providers, as independent organisations under their own terms.

Emails and member updates

We may send transactional messages needed to operate your account, such as email verification, security, subscription, payment or important service messages.

We may also send information about DetectraPro features or services where electronic marketing is permitted by law. You can ask us to stop sending marketing messages by contacting support@detectrapro.com. Stopping marketing does not prevent us from sending essential account, security or subscription messages.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing an active account, maintaining saved Research information, managing subscriptions, resolving disputes, preventing abuse and meeting legal or accounting requirements.

Temporary registration and security records are designed to be short-lived. Subscription and payment records may need to be kept for longer where required for financial, legal, fraud-prevention or audit purposes.

International processing

Some third-party technology, payment, mapping or data providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, the relevant lawful transfer mechanism should be used by DetectraPro or the provider responsible for that processing.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to request access to your personal information, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, request deletion or restriction, object to certain uses, request portability of information you provided, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how your personal information has been handled, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve the issue. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as DetectraPro develops, when features or service providers change, or when legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page.
