Improved Network Coverage Handling
Mobile network coverage can be unreliable in rural and countryside locations. This previously affected how finds were uploaded to user dashboards.
Record a Find (24/01/2026)
We’ve introduced several improvements to the Record a Find page to make it faster and more reliable when detecting out in the field.
Improved Network Coverage Handling
Mobile network coverage can be unreliable in rural and countryside locations. This previously affected how finds were uploaded to user dashboards.
The Record a Find page now actively monitors mobile signal strength. When a poor connection is detected, image sizes are automatically reduced to allow uploads to complete more reliably on slow or unstable networks.
If your connection is lost entirely, you’ll see the message: “Saved offline — will upload automatically when online.”
You can continue recording new finds as normal. The submit form will display how many uploads are pending. Once a network connection is restored, your finds will automatically upload to your dashboard. If this does not happen, simply select the Pending Uploads button to manually upload all saved finds when a stable signal is available.
Mobile Image Optimisation
When using a mobile device, uploaded images are now automatically resized. This significantly reduces upload times and improves reliability when detecting on the move.
Weather Condition Dropdown
A new weather condition dropdown has been added, allowing you to quickly select and save weather details with each find.

The Finds Map has received several powerful new features designed to help you research, track, and revisit areas of interest more effectively.
Map Insights
- Hotspots – View the total number of Hotspots you’ve saved. A Hotspot is an area of interest you plan to detect. Once your research is complete, you can pin the exact location for future investigation.
- Finds – Displays the total number of finds you’ve added using Use My Location.
- Top Finds – Quickly see what you discover most often.
Quick Actions
- Centre Map on Me – Activates your device’s GPS (permission may be required) and displays your exact location with a blue dot. This is especially useful when revisiting saved finds. The Nearest Find indicator shows how far away your closest saved find is.
- Follow Me: OFF – Disables GPS tracking and stops location updates.
- Add Hotspot – Zoom into a location, name your Hotspot, add notes, and save it directly to the map. The Hotspot will also appear in your Saved Hotspots list.
Saved Finds
Displays all finds added using Use My Location. Selecting a saved find from the list highlights it on the map and shows a thumbnail preview.
Nearest Find
Shows the distance to your nearest saved find when GPS is active, making it easy to navigate back using location tracking.
Research Notes
Add and store research notes directly within the map view. Perfect for recording observations, land access details, or future detecting plans while out in the field.
